My name is Anna Katchalova. At the age of 12 I taught myself the basics of oriental dance. The stimulus for the study of this feminine dance were the following series: «Clone» and «Shakira». The moves, plastic and grace of oriental dance is very worried my soul, so I decided to master all the subtleties of this dance alone.

 

I wanted to learn the dance through my entire body and soul, without outside interference. My very first suit I made at the age of 13. For about a year I was busy with small beads, and my little fingers were all pricked, eyes were hurting, but it was absolutely worth it. Until that present day, this suit is in my closet, as a memory of my first performance, which was back in school. Even now, looking at my first suit my heart is getting filled with joy and pride, that I can scream – Oh my God!

Well, I could make it!

 

After several performances on the city’s stages I was invited to perform oriental dance in Uzbek society «Sogdina» by its head Irina Zakharovna Kravtsov, where I started to gain experience in solo performances and improvisations. I was a child, who loved the most to dance and to appear in public in hand-made costumes. And so I went towards my aim.

 

At the age of 15 I started performing at various events where my dancing began to bring me first income. For a long time I danced in the «Gloria» and «Lemmik» as well as in other places.
 
I gained experience, performing before different audiences and the most fantastic was that the audience accepted me with enthusiasm! Place «Lemmik» and its owner Valentine Kozlovskaya I remember with incredible warmth, as most of my performances were there.

 

I remember my first staging for the dance group. I was only 15 years old, when head of the dance group «Varjud», Elena Sutyrin offered me a joint number in the following styles: modern and oriental. I was very happy with that proposal, but after a while my joy was replaced with fear… How?!

 

I even had no idea (in my 15!) how to make performance on the stage, and moreover, how to work with a huge number of people. I had never had to face such a situation before. Before this I was only thinking out dances for myself, alone at home, in the hall, near a small mirror. And this is a huge team. I was worrying stiff. However, I did it at once. The dance was invented in my head, and then we rehearsed. This resulted in a wonderful dance, which even went to the finals in the «Koolitants» dance competition. And even long after, there are so many ideas in my head, so bright and interesting, that so far I never stop putting them into life. Each dance, I think over, imagining different options. And then I move on to the stage performance. I was invited to banquets, anniversaries, weddings and other events. I participated in various competitions and continue to improve my skills further.

 

During my second year at the university, I received an offer from the resort in Narva-Jõesuu to open a group of oriental dance. Finally! It was my dream to be engaged with a team, before that I was only trying to teach in the Uzbek society «Sogdina», where I had my first experience of making a stage performance for the dance team, and this very time I tried to run a small dance group at school, at my own prom in the secondary school. This was the second dance I made for a group performance. Then I was giving individual lessons at home as a private dance teacher.

 

And so in Narva-Jõesuu sanatorium, I started my choreographic work. At first, the resort manager wanted to call the band “Hurghada”, but I asked her to give me some time to think and come up with a better name, and so she agreed. The name was found quickly. After my school classes, I decided to have a meal and went to the canteen, but the thoughts of the name for the group did not leave me for a minute, accidentally or not, I glanced at the cake, it was in the form of a heart, and so was born the name of the “Heart of the East.”

 

And so I continued my training in the resort town of Narva-Jõesuu. Until that occasion, this led me into another dance studio. So I began to train in Narva and in Ust-Narva as well. After a while I realized, that my constant trips to Ust-Narva will not let me to realize my ideas and ambitions. In the end, I decided to open several groups in the Estonian gymnasium, where I am still happily engaged with their dance collectives.
